Custom Duct Tee Fittings — Trunk & Branch Air Distribution
Duct tee fittings split airflow from a main trunk line into a perpendicular branch run. Our tees feature fully independent trunk and branch dimensioning—the branch can be any size up to the trunk width, and branch length is independently configurable.
Residential Trunk-and-Branch Systems
The most common residential configuration uses a 14"×10" or 12"×10" trunk with 8"×8" or 8"×6" branch takeoffs. Tees are placed at each room’s supply register location, with the trunk continuing past the branch. Custom sizing eliminates air leaks from field-modified universal fittings.
Commercial & Industrial Tees
Commercial tees often require trunk sizes of 20" and larger with 22 or 20 gauge material. TDC connections on the trunk and slip connections on the branch are standard for systems above 2" static pressure. For high-pressure systems, flanged connections with gaskets are available on all openings.
Airflow Balancing
The branch takeoff creates a pressure differential that can starve downstream trunk registers if not properly sized. As a rule of thumb, branch cross-sectional area should not exceed 60% of the trunk area. For equal distribution, use a bullhead tee where the trunk terminates and both outlets are branches.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the branch be a different size than the trunk?
Yes. Our tee fittings have fully independent trunk and branch dimensions. The branch can be any size up to the trunk width.
Do you offer bullhead tees?
Yes. Set both outlets to the same dimension to create a bullhead tee for equal airflow distribution.
What connection types are available?
Raw, Slip, Drive, TDC, and Flanged connections are available on all three openings (inlet, outlet, and branch) independently.
