PMX Ductwork is a sheet metal shop at 924 California Ave in Pittsburgh, about an hour from the Ohio line on I-76 and I-70. We fabricate custom duct fittings for contractors across Ohio, from the Mahoning Valley and Youngstown, through Akron, Canton and Cleveland, to Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati and Toledo. Every fitting is cut, formed and seamed to the dimensions you enter, and priced in the designer before you order.

Eastern Ohio shares Pittsburgh's building stock and its problems: steel-town housing from the 1900s through the 1950s, coal-furnace basements, and equipment replacements that never line up with the old duct. Ductwork for Ohio's houses and buildings

The Mahoning and Shenango valleys, Youngstown, Warren, Niles, Steubenville and East Liverpool, are the closest Ohio work to the shop and the most like Pittsburgh: old brick and frame houses with stone or block basements, a furnace replacement that moves the plenum, and a trunk that has to dodge a beam or a soil stack. Plenums built to the new unit, transitions to the old trunk, offsets and square to rounds at each branch are the everyday order.

Akron, Canton and the Cleveland suburbs from Parma to Mentor have huge numbers of 1950s and 1960s ranches and colonials with slab or crawl-space duct and a single trunk down the basement. Those systems are where a proper reducer at each step-down and an elbow with turning vanes instead of a field-mitered box make the difference between a noisy system and a quiet one. Return boots sized to the actual register opening are a common request, because the stock boots never match the old wall registers.

Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati are growing, and new construction there wants straight trunk, round pipe, tees and wyes in quantity, in sizes that come straight off a Manual D layout. Because every piece is built from the dimensions you enter, a takeoff can be ordered exactly as designed instead of rounded to whatever the supply house stocks.

Toledo and the lake counties run a long heating season with lake-effect snow, and a lot of duct in unconditioned space. Fittings with continuous seams and sealed connections, with the right insulation over them, are what keep those systems from losing their heat in the attic.

Commercial and industrial exhaust in Ohio

Ohio's steel, automotive, plastics and food plants run exhaust, dust collection and makeup air that is nowhere near a residential size chart. Heavy-gauge straight duct, large crosses and tees, and end caps for cleanouts and future taps are built on the same tables as the residential work, and stainless is available on every fitting for washdown and corrosive service.

Restaurant kitchens in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati need grease exhaust fittings, most often a stainless square to round from the hood collar to the fan inlet with a long, gentle taper.
